Water is a symbol of baptism, and is an important part in the rite of baptism. Baptism is a sacrament – one of the ways that God comes to us in very real ways. It is how people become Christians and receive all of God’s promises.
Baptism uses water and the words “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. (It doesn’t need to be special water, but in some churches holy water is used – that’s water with a special blessing.)
